National Geographic Offering Funding for Local Pandemic Coverage

The National Geographic Society is offering $1,000 – $8,000 stipends to writers, photographers, videographers, audio journalists, cartographers, filmmakers, and data visualization experts who want to cover pandemic issues in their own communities.

The goals of this “COVID-19 Emergency Fund” are the following:

  • to disseminate critical information
  • illuminate stories that bring us hope
  • to find and share solutions to our problems

In particular, National Geographic is seeking reporting that prioritizes and serves high-risk and hard-hit communities around the world, including:

  • indigenous communities
  • immigrant or refugee communities
  • elderly populations
  • children
  • and underserved urban or rural populations
