Submariners, Though Technically Quarantined, Might Be Unaware of the Pandemic

According to interviews with French navy officers conducted by the Associated Press, mariners aboard ballistic submarines that departed prior to the worldwide outbreak of COVID-19 likely have little knowledge of the pandemic. In order to maintain morale and keep the crew focused on their mission, commanders routinely withhold bad news. Because French submarine missions last approximately two months, those submariners who departed in February might return to a completely unexpected world when they resurface in April.
